Too much coffee, some thoughts on lizards

I had two cappucinnos at breakfast, before we went out to the jetties on the southeastern edge of Georgetown. That's probably too much coffee. Perhaps I can blame that for the feeling of vertigo I had, creeping along a narrow walkway a mere six feet wide, towering at least a metre above the water.

Three views of Penang

We got up reasonably early today (given we'd lain awake watching the execrable Stripes on TV last night until I don't know when) and got a taxi over to Penang Hill, where the funicular took us up to the top.

It's a long way up: so much so that when the train paused at the middle station, I thought we were done. It was only recently installed by a Swiss company, and feels safe, unlike the first incarnation, built using slave labour and shoddy British engineering, and which was broken as soon as it began and had to be replaced over the next three years. Never get colonised, that teaches us.

Lost in Penang

We flew into Penang at just after midday today. The airport has been upgraded since I was last there; now it's shiny and new and there are no signs anywhere, which means you get off the plane, into the terminal and then have no clues about where to go for immigration or to find your luggage. I'm sure when it's finished it will be lovely.
