Struggling again
It was silly to spend all week in Taiwan sleeping and resting, only to get the last flight out of Hong Kong on Sunday, depositing us in Singapore at 1:30 in the morning, and only getting back in to the flat after 2am. (There's a separate priority queue at the airport for pregnant ladies, but my wife refused to take it. I was aghast and dumbfounded, as she's not going to have this opportunity to skip the line for a long time now. Maybe that means I could waddle down there with a cushion stuck down my shirt - the family is owed a free ride, surely?)

Allergic reaction
I'm feeling quite sorry for myself. We visited my wife's cousin today, who lives in a house with three cats, two dogs (one small, the other a pony-sized Great Dane), three children, and thus a cloud of hair, dust and dander that could block out the moon. We stayed for two hours, of which I spent one hour and fifty-nine minutes sneezing, my eyes streaming, my throat burning, until finally everyone had enough of laughing at my reaction and we drove back to Halifax. My eyes are still red raw now and I'm draining through my nose, which suggests whatever I'm reacting to is going to take as long to get back out as it took to go in.

You can't go back
I felt gloomy when I arrived in Tin Hau, and the despond shifted a little, but not too much, by the time I woke up. Coming back to Hong Kong, I was struck by how muggy the air is. This is retribution for all the sneers I made at first time visitors to Singapore, startled by the heat and humidity. It turns out that I'm just as bad at adjusting, but I hadn't realised I'd have to go through it myself.

Down about getting dressed up
Dread news came today while I was in a meeting: the details of the company off-site in Bangkok next week.

Gloomy in Marugame
I woke feeling dehydrated this morning, but not puking into a bucket. This is a good way to start the day after a heavy night of shouting with Japanese students, and is something to be thankful for.
However, I haven't figured out the air conditioning in the hotel room (or how to open the window) so the fetid, sauna-like conditions continue. Lucky I'm here on my own, though I feel sorry for the poor maid who has to come in and make my bed.

California (fitness) blues, Hong Kong
Well, that was fairly depressing. I went along to California Fitness after work today, for my induction/personal training session/fear-uncertainty-and-doubt indoctrination. This consisted of another go on the scientology e-meter, with different results to last time: now I'm fatter than average and with low muscle mass. It's like my own body has helped them to perform a bait-and-switch manouvre.

Losing again
Something terrible has happened. It's so sad that I'm finding it hard to carry on, not just with this blog entry, but with all of existence.

Misdirection
My girlfriend often says I'm not very romantic, but last night I said something that really surprised her.
