Croupier

I watched Croupier again this evening, and was vaguely disturbed by how young Clive Owen looked. Could a boy of 15 really be working in a casino?

No, not 15. He must have been at least 15 and a half years old.

Fist Of Fun

Today I finally received my incredibly well-travelled Fist Of Fun DVD: it had been posted from Wales to London before Christmas, then forwarded to Hong Kong, where it sat in the post office, unclaimed, for two weeks, then returned to London, then posted on to Singapore a month later when we got a permanent address. At this speed, it would have been quicker to construct a time machine and return to the 1990s.

No school like the old school

I got a message on Facebook this week to say that my old secondary school is being demolished, and they're having a party and drinks to celebrate. Or commemorate. I'm not sure quite how that works.

At sixes and Sevens

Once again it's the weekend of the Rugby Sevens in Hong Kong, when there's a traditional influx of drunken Westerners to Lan Kwai Fong and Wan Chai. Which isn't that different to any other weekend in Hong Kong.

Bonded

A new James Bond film has been announced for November 2012, and as a more observant person than me has recognised, that's 22 months away, and there's 22 James Bond films already released. Such a coincidence is too good to pass up, so every month a coterie of bloggers will be watching one Bond and then blogging about it.

Cheer up, you won't feel a thing

I do have some things to be cheerful about.

Strange things arriving in the post

Yesterday I was telephoned by the ever-efficient, ever-helpful Benson, Guardian of the Mansion in which I reside, to be informed that there was a parcel from Sweden waiting for me.  I could hardly wait to get home and find out what it could be.  More Pepparkakor?  More frankly painful licquorice-based throat pastilles?  A big bag of Plopp?

Still cold / ancient history of web 1.0

It continues to be chilly in Hong Kong. If it carries on like this for much longer, somebody will have to turn the air conditioning off.

Slight return

I'm very happy with the internet today, because it helped me find a cartoon from my childhood. I had vague memories of seeing it, when I was maybe six or seven, and only ever after visits to a hospital that I somehow remember included a rocking horse several times taller than a fully grown man. Since I don't believe even in the early 1980s that the NHS would have had the budget to provide giant rocking horses as part of their standard medical equipment, I assume that part is an exaggeration.
