New shoes!
After last night's unexpected drinking binge, I was a frail mess today. It took me several hours to achieve even simple tasks like sweeping the floor or washing the dishes. By early evening I felt I'd returned to humanity, so to celebrate I bought a pair of Nike's latest running shoe, the FlyKnit1.

A gift from above
A bird shat on me today, as I walked to work. I suppose that's good luck. It was a little splatter of green-brown guano that hit my trousers and the edge of my Kindle. I must have been lucky, because I had a packet of tissues in my bag and I wasn't looking up at the source of the defecation.
Then again, perhaps if I'd been really lucky it would have missed me completely.
I hope it was a bird. Let's say no more of that.

Long day
I got out of bed at 6:15 this morning, pre-empting my alarm clock by twenty minutes. Maybe I was just excited to be trying out my new shoes.

New shoes
I bought some new trainers about a month ago, but because I'm fastidious about footwear, I hadn't worn them at all. I don't like to wear new shoes, because I'm worried that I'll get them dirty. As a result, it's often months that they'll sit unused, until my embarrassment at my irrationality overcomes my foibles, and I put them on. So in this case, a month isn't actually that bad; there's a pair of smart shoes I bought in Oxford in February which I haven't worn yet.

Duddell Street Shoes
My office is on Duddell Street, where there's always soon-to-be-married couples having their photos done on the antique photogenic steps at the southern end of the street. As a consequence of forever encountering men in shiny white suits and women in incredible frocks every day of my working life, I've become rather inured to these strange sights. "Just another model" I sigh as I walk past an etiolated Eastern European with a fashionable haircut and a camera crew.

Still suffering Ebeneezer after-effects
More than 24 hours have passed and that rogue felafel is still wreaking havoc; I've spent most of the day doubled up, clutching my stomach and whimpering. I suppose some of this could be the strains provided by yesterday's biking, but that has never tied my guts in knots before.

An unsatisfying foray to Mong Kok
Today I went shoeshopping in Mong Kok. I had a very specific shoe in mind; a pair of horrendously ugly looking Five Tens, a shoe that looks like an unattractive orthapaedic boot. I'd rather wear something that looked less medical, but the soles of Five Tens are made from the very sticky Stealth Rubber, which means when you go riding, your feet won't slip off your pedals. I could ride with my shoes clipped into the pedals, but having not been on a bike in six months, I was hoping to bolster my confidence by being able to dab a foot down if I arrived at an emergency before my ability did.

Saturday night and the living is easy
It was a friend's birthday today, and to celebrate we went to an all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurant on the outskirts of Wan Chai. This struck me as a bit of a dubious prospect: firstly, I don't think you want to choose which raw fish to eat solely on the basis of the quantity available, and, more selfishly, because I could only spend an hour there before rushing off to comedy, which meant I had to limit the ratio of expenditure to Japanese food. Still, I had the last laugh by eating two kilos of edamame and then legging it.
