Coming soon

Off to the comedy club tonight, to do my first set (as opposed to hosting) this year.  Good grief, where is 2010 going.  Think I'll open with some new stuff.  After all, that's the best way to get going.  Start strong fresh.

I guess people are now getting over the excitement of the iPad, and are now preparing for the next exciting thing: Chinese New Year.

That is, if you're excited by the idea of two men dressed up as an effeminate lion, eating a paper cabbage to celebrate the passing of another year.  Really, China may go on about thousands of years of cultural development, but if that's the best you can come up with, I have to wonder about the level of your expectations.

Well, you might say it's not about the accurate depiction of a lion's dietary requirements.  Maybe it's about the celebration.  Well, if you're going to celebrate something, I think you could do with some music.  Not just with somebody banging a drum as loud as they can for days on end.  It's so bad, I thought they were rehearsing for the New Year for the last six months, and it turns out the noise was the flats next door being demolished.

OK, OK, perhaps I come across as being negative here.  But does it make you feel that wonderful to be approaching the year of the tiger?  What will be in store for us?  A few months of licking ourselves, hiding in a jungle and then being shot by a bloke in khaki shorts and a silly hat.  That doesn't strike me as a good year.

Then again, this year was the cow.  Or in mainland China, "the melamine reclamation facility".  That's where milk comes from, after all.
