Day 7: Speedwork at Happy Valley

First time for a while that I've been intimidated by a run. (If you ignore the Gold Coast, where I was more enraged than anything else.) Got a text at midday telling me to do two laps at 170bpm, and then recover, and then repeat.
This sounded optimistic at best, ominous at worst. Was this finally approaching the run-until-you-throw-up-over-yourself plan? I didn't eat that great, shambled off to HV and went for it. First lap was surprisingly easy - well, the first 400m felt ok. By the end of the second lap, it was going pretty hard. However, playing Iron Maiden at full volume seems to help - this either makes you run faster because of the beat, or (more unkind souls would point out) because you want to stop, so you run faster to get it over with.
No matter what, playing dance remixes of The Bravery the second time out wasn't so quick. But either way, I would never have countenanced back to back laps of HV at under 5:30, so there's some progression there...
