Tonight we visited friends for dinner, and afterwards watched the 2008 film, Max Payne, which is based on a 2003 video game of the same name. It's set in a wintry New York, so that should have been some respite from the heat.

A New Maximum Payne
I went for a walk today, just to the shops and back, and arrived at our front door soaked with sweat. My face was dripping. This would be acceptable after a ten mile run, but a five minute walk? I was carrying six bottles of cider and beer, rather than some sports drink, but even so. I guess Singapore's winter, where the mercury drops to the icy cold 29 degrees, is now over.

Exhausting computer games
Last night I subjected myself to the fitness test on the Kinect Nike Fitness game, which consists mainly of me doing press-ups incorrectly and then hopping from one leg to the other. And swearing when the Kinect isn't as good as you'd expect at recognising human body parts.

Stick a fork in it
Funnily enough, after spending three hours playing Sleeping Dogs, I failed to get up and run this morning. Some might say that was a waste, but I got to see a man on fire run screaming from an exploding car, before the words "You Died" flashed up on screen as if they were worried about any ambiguity existing in the situation.
That meant I didn't get to wear my compression tights to work today: again, it's unclear if that was a missed opportunity or a lucky escape. I managed to pass the day without getting too depressed at this lack of high-tensile undergarments, and then this evening we went shopping for cutlery.

Sleeping Dogs
Sleeping Dogs is a sandbox game in the mould of Grand Theft Auto, except instead of running around a reimagined New York / Los Angeles, beating people up, you run around a reimagined Hong Kong, beating people up and trying to infiltrate the Triads for the police / trying to work your way up the Triads. Basically Infernal Affairs for the Xbox.

Faster?
I lost an afternoon of my life hammering my head against the stony face of a database, and got home late, where I then lost another hour of my life playing SSX.

Fruit Ninja
Yesterday I had five minutes to spare, so I turned on the tablet and played a few quick games of Fruit Ninja.
An hour and a half later, I was still slicing simulated fruit in two by swiping my hands over a touchscreen. Fruit Ninja is terrifyingly addictive; with every game, I would say ‘just one more’ and then another game, and another, and another. The game is a little vicious; if you don’t do well to begin with, it starves you of the more exciting bonus fruit, and tosses only single fruit up at you to slice. If instead you start off strongly and slice a whole series of apples and oranges with a single swipe, the game flings more fruit at you, which means more chances to get combo bonuses and the sought-after bonus bananas. So it becomes more difficult, as there’s much more fruit flying around, but you have a much greater opportunity to get a high score.

Comedy post-mortem
Last night I had fun at the club, although the crowd were confusing as ever, laughing when I wouldn't expect them to and sitting in silence when I thought they'd laugh uproariously. I thought my Twitter joke was a winner, but the only laugh it got was a ghostly chuckle from a comedian hiding behind the curtain in the green room. You had to not be there, I guess.
