Saturday, packed

Today was pretty exhausting; I got up and started running before 7 o'clock, and since Tuesday I've done more than 50km, which, after doing between 5 and 10 in recent weeks while I was tapering down, has been a pretty hefty step up. So far, the experience I've had of higher volumes in 2012 has been standing me in good stead. That, and a diet of smoothies every morning, so I've been filled with a mix of fruit, spinach and hemp powder every morning. If I'd done it on bread and water, I believe I'd be a broken man by now.

Perspectives

I went home for lunch today. It was a shame that I left my keys at the office, and so denied myself a delicious cheese sandwich, but I couldn't face walking all the way back to the office and then home again, so I returned via the Salad Stop by the park.

Exhausted again

This is what I look like after 50 kilometres on a bike.

Back in Hong Kong at last

The plane back to Hong Kong seemed filled with children, who were all noisy at embarkation but thankfully docile throughout the flight. Or perhaps my noise cancelling headphones are much better than I thought. Or everyone has been dosing their kids with strong medication.

Exhausted fumbling

Tomorrow I'm off to Thailand, so tonight I spent two hours trying to put a new pair of tyres on my bike: off came the (fairly hefty) tyres I already had and on went an enormous pair of downhill tyres.

Aftermath

Last night I went to my favourite slightly shady bar in Soho, to play bass for an hour. Unfortunately for me, there was a gaggle of people already playing and no chance to get my hand on anything. Dorsher and I retired to the bar over the street, and went back a bit later to see a boggle-eyed Hong Konger regurgitating "Ice Ice Baby" to a captivated crowd. It's the clash of different cultures that makes Hong Kong such an interesting place to live.

Or the clash of culture with twenty-year old hip-hop of dubious merit, but you get the picture.

Lagged

So I've been up now since 8am on Sunday, UK time, and it's now 10pm Monday, HK time, which is 30 hours awake, punctuated by a few fitful hours dozing on the plane. I suppose the victims of psychological experiments have been awake for longer, but sometimes they got given amphetamines, the lucky blighters.
