Up against it

It wasn't my body that rebelled, but my GPS. I got up this morning, put on my expensively minimalist shoes, and went downstairs for a five minute run. My GPS declined to behave itself, and although I thought I was running quite quickly, laughed in my face. It wasn't until I got back and uploaded the data to the computer that I found my GPS had gone in the opposite direction to me and wibbled around the bars opposite our apartment.

More fever

Waking this morning without a fever but with a terrible headache, I lay in bed for a few hours until my wife returned and pointed out I was incredibly hot again. While the mammoth doses of ibuprofen have been keeping the fever down, as they wear off the heat just spikes back up.

Flat out

It's interesting to have a really high fever, because it feels like a window into a time when I'm lobotomised. I've been sluggish, listless, incapable of attempting large scale endeavour. I haven't even been able to play games on the Xbox.

Tropical Paradise

My temperature went up to 39.2 today, which is something to be proud of; I'm always pushing the limits of my body. If it's not having veins that are filled with finest cheese, it's radiating heat off my body like a 3 bar fire.

Cresting over a fevered brow

Today the office seemed especially cold. To prevent the air conditioners blowing on their desks, people have been sellotaping sheets of paper over the vents to redirect the flow. Unfortunately for me, that has meant a constant deluge of icy cold air onto my head from every direction.

Back

IMG_3358

This morning I woke up with my back crimped in agony, either the result of carrying the television down the street last night, or (more likely) spending all afternoon and most of the evening slouched on the sofa. Bad posture makes martyrs of us all.

Back to earth

I took a strong painkiller in Chiang Mai airport, and woke up on the plane as we approached Bangkok, drool extending from my open mouth down to my elbow. That's the way to travel. There was only a short stop in Suvarbhami before we got onto the plane home to Hong Kong, and there my troubles began.

Still suffering Ebeneezer after-effects

More than 24 hours have passed and that rogue felafel is still wreaking havoc; I've spent most of the day doubled up, clutching my stomach and whimpering. I suppose some of this could be the strains provided by yesterday's biking, but that has never tied my guts in knots before.

Early start

Sometimes it's good to get an early start to the day. Up and awake before everyone else, the world is yours to stamp your identity on, say 'this is the day that I really achieve some positive change in my life.'

And sometimes you get up early because your stomach starts making emergency calls at 4am, and you then spend the next six hours chundering into the well-appointed toilet in your luxury suite. It's perhaps a shame that when you're vomitting, the experience isn't enhanced by the quality of the receptacle.

Still broken

My body decided to protest the abuse it's taken for the last few days, by sending me all wobbly and lightheaded after lunch.

Well, it's that, or my body hates feta cheese salads, or the air conditioning should have been downgraded, but whichever, by three p.m. I had the shakes and a thumping headache, and so I limped down to the MTR.

Downtime

I woke up feeling awful today, and ended up taking the day off and staying in bed.  This was probably the wise choice; I'd spent the previous evening stumbled around, struggling with mundane tasks like talking to people, eating noodles and not dribbling out the side of my mouth.  When I get ill, even with something like a bad cold, I'm a menace to myself and those around me, so after five days of what sounded like a 40-a-day smoker's cough, it was time to isolate myself.

Cough it up

I've been feeling sicker and sicker every day this week. To begin with I blamed my sore throat on inhaling fumes at the weekend. I'm not sure how I would have subjected myself to breathing in lots of pollution while bobbing up and down on a boat miles from Hong Kong, but you never know, do you?

Sick

I started December very well; or as well as can be expected, if your head is down the toilet at 3 in the morning.I must have eaten something dodgy on the 1st, because for a good three or four hours early on Wednesday morning, I did nothing but puke my guts out.Must remember in future to stop having stuff go up my nose; possibly the least fun part of all this was the taste of stale Thai green curry in my nose, or the back of my throat whenever I tried to hawk it up.Spent all of the 2nd lying on the sofa, doing nothing. Oh, the injustice of being sick the whole day after my birthday, when I hadn't even been drinking.
